Ferrari 250 GTO 3D scans and body buck

To be able to 3D laser scan one Ferrari 250 GTO is a privilege, but we have now scanned two. This makes us possibly unique on the planet (outside Ferrari?) in being able to make a direct comparison between different cars and move forward with the technical ability to use the data to make a buck/art installation. Early Ferrari bodies differ for a very good reason: the bodies were generally created in a rush, using a m

Okrasa Special – 3D scan and section buck

The Okrasa Special is a Volkswagen and Porsche based special with its own bespoke chassis. It has Porsche 550 Spyder approximate dimensions. So compact and lithe then! At this point it would be good to say what we did not do and this was essentially any part of the body design bar showing the design slightly cropped at the front over the front wheel arch. The model produced by Steve (the Okrasa’s custodian) and

Bentley Continental style body designed by 3D Engineers

Bentley R-Type – Continental style body design & buck

The Bentley R-Type Continental is one of the few cars to genuinely deserve the label iconic. Production ran to the low hundreds and its style and sophistication have led to an an enormous increase in prices during recent years. However, even though you may not be able to afford an original car, the Bentley R-Type is still readily available and a chassis restoration and re-body is a financially viable proposition. Hav

3D Engineers aluminium car body design

A S Motorsport DBR

The Brief To start the project, 3D Engineers was recruited to scan an existing Aston Martin DBR2 replica and subtly manipulate the subsequent data to enable the creation of a vehicle with revised features. In particular the bodywork aft of the doors was revised to create a vehicle that not only more faithfully followed the original car’s lines, but as a useful by-product, also increased the boot volume. Once th

Jaguar XJ13 re-creation, buck design and 3D scanning

In 1971 the XJ13 famously crashed at MIRA suffering extensive damage. It was subsequently rebuilt with a revised specification. Over the years we have created both versions of the XJ13 in CAD and from this designed the bucks and bodies. Manufacture in aluminium subsequently occurred. Jaguar Magazine featured work we created on the front page of its magazine.
