Beaulieu Land Speed Record Cars

The iconic cars housed in the Beaulieu museum, featuring the Sunbeams, Bluebird and Golden Arrow, were 3D scanned and photographed to create a permanent digital archive record for the museum. Of course, this will help preserve them for many future generations to admire, people who will never visit to see and, should disaster befall them,  the bodyshop to re-create, but it also shows how accessing 3D technologies can

Ferrari 250 GTO 3D scans and body buck

To be able to 3D laser scan one Ferrari 250 GTO is a privilege, but we have now scanned two. This makes us possibly unique on the planet (outside Ferrari?) in being able to make a direct comparison between different cars and move forward with the technical ability to use the data to make a buck/art installation. Early Ferrari bodies differ for a very good reason: the bodies were generally created in a rush, using a m

1905 Corre 3D – 3D veteran car scan

The Corre was based on a Renault design as witnessed by the radiator being behind the engine and the vehicle having the Renault coal scuttle style bonnet. This 1905 Veteran car had not long completed the 2014 London-Brighton run when we 3D laser scanned it. The resulting data, known as a point cloud, had over 6,000,000 points. The data has since been post-processed and, for example, can now be used for measuring betw

Bentley Continental style body designed by 3D Engineers

Bentley R-Type – Continental style body design & buck

The Bentley R-Type Continental is one of the few cars to genuinely deserve the label iconic. Production ran to the low hundreds and its style and sophistication have led to an an enormous increase in prices during recent years. However, even though you may not be able to afford an original car, the Bentley R-Type is still readily available and a chassis restoration and re-body is a financially viable proposition. Hav

The “Steady Special” – 3D scan, body design & buck

The “Steady Special” is a vehicle design conceived by Ronald “Steady” Barker many years ago and brought to life by a 3D Engineers design. As with virtually every other design we have done, the shape was guided by the client’s needs and desires. Click picture above for information on Ronald “Steady” Barker Click picture above to view history of the Steady Special up to 2012 Cl

3D CAD rendering Turner wheel

“Turner” wheel and drum

As part of another project reverse engineering the body of another beautiful old car, we were required to 3D scan and reverse engineer a very rare Turner wheel and drum. Being of an unusual design, using a Bugatti Type 35 style wheel with integral drum, this was an interesting project all of itself. The idea was that the drum section could remain the same and the rim area be changed for different tyre sizes. Our work

Westland Whirlwind reverse engineering project

We are pleased to be playing a small part in the re-creation of this superb World War II twin-engined fighter bomber. Essentially our role is 3D scanning two models that were used by Westland for aerodynamic testing. The subsequent data has been post-processed so the CAD crew the project team already has on board can create the body surface in conjunction with the plans that already exist. We wish the Whirlwind Fight

Jaguar XJ13 re-creation, buck design and 3D scanning

In 1971 the XJ13 famously crashed at MIRA suffering extensive damage. It was subsequently rebuilt with a revised specification. Over the years we have created both versions of the XJ13 in CAD and from this designed the bucks and bodies. Manufacture in aluminium subsequently occurred. Jaguar Magazine featured work we created on the front page of its magazine.

Hudson Super Six (1917)

Design brief Having acquired the chassis and running gear for this 1917 American racer, our client needed the body design to be re-created and asked us to achieve this goal. Prior to starting, we were given a number of pictures of the vehicle. A little known, but important, part of our work is that we are good at locating information previously unknown to the client. In this case, we managed to find a number of
